Workshop on in silico analysis for innovation in biocontrol and biostimulation

On Wednesday June 25, 2025, IIS Digibiocontrol co-organized, alongside IIS TRAIL - Trusted AI Labs, a workshop dedicated to the importance ofin silico analysis in the development of new biocontrol and biostimulation solutions.

The aim of the day was to introduce our partners to innovative tools, databases and digital approaches, in order to support their research and foster synergies between the agronomic and digital fields.

The morning began with a series of inspiring presentations by national and international experts, highlighting already existing solutions:

  • Prof. Tilmann Weber (DTU - Technical University of Denmark): AntiSMASH platform
  • Prof. Philippe Jacques (Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech): Norine platform
  • Prof. Frédéric Kerff (Université de Liège) : AlphaFold platform
  • Mr. Bryan Renard (Multitel): AI and prediction of peptide bioactivity
  • Dr. Jean-Marc Crowet (Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne): Simulation of membrane interactions
  • Dr. Simon Caulier & Mr. Alain Decroës (BiocSol)

The rest of the event was devoted to small-group discussions, with the aim of transposing approaches from other digital sectors to the challenges of sustainable agriculture.

Participants were invited to work as a team to design a digital project to support the development of new biocontrol solutions. This collaborative workshop produced seven project ideas, some of which were selected for their innovative character, strategic relevance and feasibility. These ideas will be further developed over the coming months, with a view to developing project proposals to be submitted for funding.
